FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE January 6, 2003
RESIDENTS BELIEVE IT IS THE GOVERNMENT'S RESPONSIBILITY TO ENSURE SUFFICIENT HOUSING TO MEET THE GROWING POPULATION'S NEEDS.
Hamilton: Most residents believe that Government should bear the responsibility of meeting Bermuda's growing population housing needs, according to results of the Bermuda Omnibus, a survey conducted by Bermuda's Total Marketing & Communications Ltd. (TMC) and its Canadian affiliate Corporate Research Associates Inc. (CRA).
Given the current housing situation in Bermuda, residents were asked whose responsibility they felt it is to ensure that sufficient housing is developed to meet the growing population's needs: Government, local businesses or international businesses. Results clearly show that residents believe Government should play an important role in resolving the current housing crisis. Overall, two thirds of residents (67%) believe it is the responsibility of Government to ensure that sufficient housing is developed in Bermuda to meet the growing population's needs. Few consider it to be the responsibility of either local businesses (5%), international businesses (3%) or Government and international businesses combined (2%). A minority of residents (15%) believes it is a shared responsibility of Government, local and international businesses.
These results are part of the Bermuda Omnibus, an independent, quarterly survey of Bermuda residents, and are based on a representative sample of 402 Bermuda residents. The survey was conducted between December 12th and 17th, 2002 with the results accurate to within +4.9 percentage points in 95 out of 100 samples.
