RSG from Re Systems Group of New York

The RSG Reinsurance/High Excess Liability/Finite Risk processing USA oriented application was originally brought to Bermuda in 1987 by RE Systems Group (Bermuda) Ltd. which was formed by John Harries, Les Center, and Nick Quinn. Highly internationalized by Nick Quinn and Bermudian professional staff over the past 18+ years, this software is currently used by a number of Bermuda's most prominent insurance companies to process North American, Latin American, European, Middle East, and Far East policies.

RSG has over 40 installations, 8 in Bermuda, 31 in North America, 8 in Canada, and 4 in Europe.

The underlying multi-dimensional D3 database operates thin client-server under Windows NT, IBM's AIX (Unix) and Linux® (Unix). An extremely efficient extracting process, that "Data Warehouses" the underlying D3 data elements into MS SQL-Server®, provides an ease of transportation thru MS QUERY® and other OLAP tools of unparalleled capability in these islands.

RSG Modules

  • Variable Underwriting
  • – A highly flexible, extremely fast, data entry environment that is customized to every Bermuda client. TSS philosophically believes that Underwriting is the ‘intellectual creativity’ each client intrinsically requires in order to differentiate the company from competitors. Every one of the Underwriting systems installed at the 12 Bermuda clients has distinct differences. TSS customizes in Bermuda without recourse to overseas professionals. An Underwriting system may include support for Property (XOL and QS), Facultative Key Risk, High Excess Liability D&O, AAD etc., (Direct), Satellite, Marine, all controlled by TYPE tables within the Variable Underwriting system. A completely customized Underwriting system consisting of 240 data elements, 12 screens and 30 tables can be specified, developed, tested, and installed into product with only a one-man week of TSS services. The underwriting module includes a Submission (Offer) Logging process, work up, quote and bind or decline capability. All marketing reports may be displayed to the screen, printed, or downloaded to MS EXCEL.

  • Accounting
  • – For both Proportional and Excess of Loss accounting methods. May include an infinite number of transaction types, premium types, commission types, etc, etc. All automatically booked in the proper Debit/Credit relationship to the General Ledger. The RSG environment includes Fiscal, Calendar, Underwriting Year and Accident Year views of the data. Accounts are booked in their Original Currency. RSG handles all translation, including Unrealized/Realized computations.

  • Treasury
  • – A Multi-Currency Banking and Cash Application system with Aging of both Accounts Receivable and Payable on an item by item basis, ensures a comprehensive control system exists for the cash environment.

  • Claims Processing
  • – RSG provides software for both Casualty and Property claims to be entered into the system, reserved for, paid out, and analyzed. Many reports including loss development triangulation and Catastrophe/Large Loss analysis are included but may be customized to match the Underwriting philosophy of the client.

  • Financial Reporting
  • – RSG includes a complete multi-currency General Ledger automatically updated for the RSG Accounting, Treasury, and Claims modules with a drill-down Report-Writer which either outputs client designed reports to the Screen, Printer or an EXCEL spreadsheet. In addition we can provide standard Journal Transaction interfaces to SUN ACCOUNTS, McDonnell-Douglas, or Great Plains General Ledgers.

  • Ad-Hoc Report-Writer
  • – Data in the RSG system is organized into Dictionary described formats so users may access that data from the RSG Client software in an ad-hoc manner. The user language is not SQL, but a very English-like sentence structure such as:

"SORT TRANSACTIONS BY BROKER BY YEAR SUB-TOTAL BROKER SUB-TOTAL YEAR TOTAL PREMIUM TOTAL ACQUISITION.COSTS TOTAL NET.ARAP LPTR"

TSS offers a full line of Bermuda specific services for RSG including:

  • 24 Hour Support
  • – Our Principals and Analysts are available 24 hours per day, 7 days a week, every day of the year. Back-up support only is available via remote logon from New York. In the 13 years of RSG presence in Bermuda, the back-up support has not been used.

  • Installation and Conversion
  • – TSS has converted companies from Ardon Re Software, SICS software, and Nelson and Baughman software. TSS has also uploaded ‘homegrown’ Access, DBASE, SYBASE, ORACLE, and INFORMIX into RSG, transforming non-integrated data into logical expressions of Policy, Account, Claim and Financial data.

  • Modifications
  • to match the needs of the Bermuda entity. Insurance/Reinsurance Underwriting today is very creative compared to the days of the ISO Standard Policy. Therefore, all RSG installations performed by TSS normally include a detailed review of how the RSG application is to reflect the client’s business plan. All work is done in Bermuda.

  • Training
  • – Over 225 Bermudian men and women professionals in the industry are trained and have used RSG (with distinct flavors of Underwriting) and thereby offer the prospective RSG client a vast pool of already trained talent. TSS does offer formal training in our own in-house Training Center customized to each client’s needs.
